I've recently had the pleasure of meeting Paulette Leaphart, and was inspired by her breast cancer survival story. Paulette underwent a double mastectomy at age 47 and not only found herself
jobless, and with enormous medical bills, but soon after, she lost her home.
Being the strong woman that she is, Paulette is planning to walk 1000 miles topless, from Biloxi, Mississippi to Washington, D.C. in April 2016 to promote awareness to this horrible disease.
Paulette and her family have recently relocated to another state to live with a friend.
You can read more about her survival story in the attached video The Inspiring Reason This Woman Is Walking 1,000 Miles Topless and in her own words below...
Please consider helping my friend as she faces the reality of her families needs - medical, mortgage, daily expenses, and thank you from the bottom of my heart!
In the words of Paulette Leaphart:
I AM a FIGHTER. I never thought it would be me. Sometimes I feel like I cheated, because it was God who come to me in the middle of the night and whispered in my ear, that I have breast cancer. I'm inspired by it because I knew then I would survive, because God came to me with the news. God trusted me with this test, and I don"t want to disappoint HIM. I was 47 years old, with a strong family history of breast cancer, I never had a mammogram in my life. Well not until My Father came to me to go get checked, because I have the dreadful disease. I found myself fortunate. Because of my close relationship with God and my obedience, I caught mine early. It was stage 2, however, it was already grade 3...which meant it was a very angry, very mean, very aggressive cancer. Was I frightened? Not nearly as much as I was angry! For me it was all in the ATTITUDE, and still is. Give me a reason, ANY reason to go out in the public topless, bearing my beautiful scars! I am stubborn and I am strong. Cancer was not going to take that away from me.
My motto was I’ll take this bull by the horns. Yes, it might throw me around a bit and knock me to the floor every once in a while, BUT, after everything is all said and done, I WILL BE THE ONE LEFT STANDING! I walk by faith and there is my strength. I will walk a thousand miles come April 2016 for all those who went before me. For all those who participated in trials so that I had better treatment options. I will walk a thousand miles for all those yet to follow. I will walk to support all those who are unable to physically participate in walks themselves. I will walk for my 4 lil cousins who lost their mom to cancer at the young tender age of 32. To show my empathy and compassion for all those who have lost a loved one to this disease. I will walk a thousand miles for the women who have lost everything in the process of going through treatment. For the common bond that all fighters share. I will walk across the country topless, for myself and for others! I will walk because I'm celebrating LIFE!!!!! I'm celebrating hope for a cure to end all cancers!! Last but not less I will walk for my eight babies, I need them to know they can do all things through Christ Who strengthens them.....
