About the Esther House of Stanly County, Inc.:
The Esther House of Stanly County, Inc., located in Albemarle, NC, is a non-profit organization that provides services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. Clothing, food, therapy, medication, court and legal advocacy and transportation are only some of the services the Esther House of Stanly County, Inc. provides since the majority of victims arrive with nothing. There are four employees in order to keep the Esther House of Stanly County, Inc. staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure optimum safety and security, to maintain operation of their crisis hotline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and to provide trained advocates to assist in hospital and court response needs.
The non-profit has been in operation since 2009 and is funded through federal grants, state funding from the Council for Women, United Way and community support. The Esther House of Stanly County, Inc. requires $20,000-$25,000 per month to operate ($300,000 annually), and receives a total of $177,000 in grant funding per year, leaving the Esther House of Stanly County, Inc. to fill in the $123,000 annual gap through donations, community support and any other source they find.
They have 18 beds, 1 crib and a few Pack-N-Plays for babies at the facility. They have been at full capacity for 6-8 months, causing them to turn people away all of the time because they are too full. Even so, the Esther House of Stanly County, Inc. never hangs up with a victim that calls for help without finding somewhere for them to go.

Who we are:
As participants in a three part leadership training program called Gratitude Training, we are a team dedicated to serving a need that we are passionate about and leaving a legacy by bringing awareness to the issue of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. In the third and final part of the training, called Masterful Living, our team has chosen to serve the community by partnering with the Esther House of Stanly County, Inc. to make much needed upgrades to their shelter, providing a comfortable, joyful atmosphere for them to be safe, heal and begin rebuilding. About our Project:
The former dining room is currently serving as the children's playroom at the Esther House of Stanly County, Inc. and is in dire need of color, fun and happiness. As a team, we will be completely re-doing the playroom, including painting the walls a brighter color, adding colorful curtains and decor, creating an arts and crafts corner and a reading corner, building two sensory boards, making a magnetic chalk board wall, building a toy storage bench and dollhouse and providing additional toys, arts and crafts and learning supplies to fill the room.
We will also be making various improvements to the backyard. We will be building a storage building for the Esther House, an immediate need they have to store supplies and donations, and revamping the playground by sanding, re-sealing and painting the wooden swing set, adding new swings, a baby swing and a flip bar, and building a covered sandbox. We will also be putting in a brick patio with a fire pit and finish off the space with a patio furniture set and grill. To make the house more inviting and welcoming to victims when they arrive and feel more like a home, we will add flower boxes to the windows and flowers at the front of the house. Our mission is to create a safe, fun place outdoors where the children can play and the victims can relax and enjoy the fresh air.
The budget for our current project plan is $10,050. If we fund raise over that amount or lower our costs by getting materials donated and discounted, then we plan to expand our project to include some of the other Esther House of Stanly County, Inc. needs, such as painting the inside of the house, purchasing more furniture (namely tables and chairs since they currently do not enough chairs for all of the victims to sit), adding various decorations throughout the house to make it more of a home, purchasing a generator to keep the home safe and in operation when the power is out, and adding rubber handles to the doors and bars to the showers so that the Esther House of Stanly County, Inc. may become ADA compliant.
