Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Fund

Donation protected

As hurricane season is back, we promise to remain unbreakable in our commitment to the people of Puerto Rico so that they may be able to protect themselves against a repeat of the devastating effects of last year's natural and human disasters.

We have placed the most significant support behind the Clean Water Project for Puerto Rico run by the Puerto Rican Science, Technology and Research Institute. Focusing on communities with no government delivery service of water, they have delivered over 5,00 Kohler Filters to families across the island, reaching over 30,000 people since October 2017. Their distribution events are attended by hundreds, and detailed demographic data is collected. You can observe this work and more online: http://prsciencetrust.org/proyectoagualimpia/

Contributions allow for the continued support of programs like Taller Salud’s emergency response program that serviced nearly 8,000 women and their families with hot meals, and over 2000 individuals with medical attention in the first 60 days. And Communitaria Iniciativa’s programming that reduces the spread of HIV amongst addicts and the homeless with complementary services. They service about 400 unique individuals per month.

Thank you for your time!

Hurricane Maria made landfall at 6:15 am on September 20 in Yabucoa, in southeastern Puerto Rico, as a Category 4 storm with winds of 155-200 mph source. The island suffered significant structural damage and widespread loss of power and communications.

Our goal is to make a real impact on communities.  We started our clean water project called Archipelago in November with a goal of bringing clean water to 1200 individuals by sending 700 - 1000 water filters. We made our first purchase of 320 water purification units on Nov. 20th, and our partner, the Puerto Rico Brain Trust for Tropical Disease Research and Prevention, is overseeing the distribution and educational programming in remote cities on the island.

Jorge and Nicole,
Co-Founders, Puerto Ricans In Action

Puerto Ricans in Action - Los Angeles was formed in 2016, and is a group working to unify the Puerto Rican community in the region.

As of 10/6/17, Puerto Ricans in Action has obtained a fiscal sponsor, Cooking With Gabby, which is a nonprofit whose mission is to eliminate hunger and unhealthy lifestyles that result in obesity and associated diseases; by giving kids, their families and communities the tools to make healthy choices.

Our fiscal sponsorship will allow us to continue to fundraise as we work toward becoming a nonprofit and ensure long-term support can be provided to Puerto Rico.
