Urgent needs for children in India


Hi! We're Rachel and Bonar, and we recently travelled to India. We visited a little village (see video above) where we met and interacted with many of the children and their families.

This is what we experienced:


Despite their huge smiles and warm welcomes, the children in this community are suffering.  Their problems are so huge and so many, that it's hard to comprehend.

No clean water. Child marriage. Open defecation.

It's absolutely awful. They need so much help.  

We spent a few hours in this village and, in that time, we spoke with many people who told us their stories.  The same stories that followed us home and kept replaying in our minds. 

Over and over again.  


It's hard to imagine growing up in a place where you have to literally fight your neighbours to get clean drinking water.  Where the only available toilet is an open field. Or, where every single girl is married before the age of 18.

But, this is the reality for millions of children in India. 

After leaving this village, we couldn't stop thinking about them. Surely, there must be a way to make their situation better. To give hope to the girls who may never even make it to high school. 

We met with the leaders of the village and the grassroots organizations that work here every day. We brainstormed and found tangible ways that we can help them improve the living conditions in this village. 

And, you can help us do it. 


Your generous donations will contribute towards the following: 

1. Providing unlimited clean drinking water for everyone in the village.

This can be achieved by repairing the existing well and creating four new water taps throughout the village. The community will also be trained to monitor and maintain the well so it can be fixed if it ever becomes broken again. 

2. Providing every home with an active, working toilet. 

The Government of India will provide 50 percent of the costs to give every home a toilet. Without this, children and their families will continue to use a nearby riverbed for their toilet.


3. Cleaning up the community and keeping it clean. 

Right now, the village is filthy. As a result, there are waterborne diseases and sanitation issues. Your support will help the community by removing waste and establishing a garbage and compost system for every household. 

4. Ensure children have proper nutrition. 

Children can't grow properly without a nutritious diet. Your support will help us create a vegetable garden for every family, including a fence to keep out unwanted guests. Fresh vegetables will help children develop.

5. Raising awareness in the community. 

One of the most important things we can do in this village is to promote the protection of children from harm. This includes sanitation and health issues, but also traditional harmful practices, like child marriage. Your donations will help educate the community on these issues.
