For the third year in a row, the Muslims of Halifax are putting together a community-wide program aimed at helping those in need in our community irrespective of race, religion or gender.
Our mission is to fill as many reusable shopping bags with food and toiletry items as possible and divide the total among several local charities. The event will take place on Sunday June 18, 2017, location: MicMac Mall-acrosss from the Bay from 12-5 pm. The event is open for everybody to participate.
We are proud to announce that this years recipients of the food drive include Feed Nova Scotia, Bryony House, Metro Turning Point, Adsum House and Bayers Westwood Family Resource Centre, Parker Street Food Bank and more.
You have the option of going out to buy the items (There are 14 items: pasta, pasta sauce, vegetables, fruit, tuna, rice, sugar, salt, oil, red beans, cereal, pancake mix, toothpaste, soap) or donate $20 and have us purchase the items, package them and then deliver them to the local charities.
Significance of the event:
The event will be held during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, in which hundreds of millions of Muslims worldwide participate by fasting without food or drink from dawn to dusk, so we know a bit about what hunger can feel like. We would like to invite you to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr -which commemorates the end of Ramadan by helping feed the needy in our community. We will also have face painting, treats and other activities for kids to celebrate this joyous event!
Help spread the word!
