Save the Avalon Theater in Mclean, Texas
Donation protected
We are trying to save the Avalon Theater, built in the late 1920's or early 1930's. It is located in downtown McLean, Texas right off Route 66 and located on Main St. The picture is what the theater looks like now, we would like to return it to its original condition and open it up for movies and also for local events and include a stage. This would also add jobs to the local community and give the people in town something to do on Friday night and all day Saturday. The theater was a center for entertainment all the way up to the mid 1980's when it was closed. The options are limited on what can be done to save the entire theater, but at least we could save the front and then have the rest reconstructed. We have to buy it from the city for back taxes and then to have the rubble removed and hauled off. All the help we can get would go a long way.
