We are muscle biologists from the MIT/Harvard community, who have immediate family members affected by muscle diseases.

Many members of my family, including my father, my uncles, and cousins, have myotonic dystrophy. Sharif's father has Becker's muscular dystrophy, and Albert has watched his brother struggle with Duchenne's muscular dystrophy since he was a small child. Chris Anselmo himself lives with Miyoshi Myopathy.

We met in graduate school, and decided that in addition to using research to find cures for these debilitating disorders, we would also band together to start an event to raise awareness of muscle diseases, facilitate interactions between stakeholders in the neuromuscular disease community, and inspire the next generation of scientists to join the fight.

We are raising money to fund a research fellowship to recruit new young scientists into the muscle disease research field. Together with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, we will award a fellowship to one or more young scientists who have innovative ideas that should be pursued in the laboratory.  We recently awarded our first fellowship and are looking forward to funding more great work!

Help us reach our goal and move closer to treatments for these devastating diseases!

Net proceeds of this campaign will be sent directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to fund the "Strength, Science and Stories of Inspiration/MDA" research fellowship.
