Sexual Assault Prevention On Tour
Sexual violence at music festivals is all too common. While this issue is getting increased media attention, there are still far too few resources for people who want to do something about it. In my work with music festivals looking to address this issue, I've seen a keen interest from the public, but a lack of concrete help available to them. I'm proud to have been part of a cultural shift and an educational revolution on the issue of safety at shows. Now it's time to take the campaign across America.
I'm so excited that the amazing band War On Women has invited me to come along with them on Vans Warped Tour this summer! Together with Hollaback! Baltimore we are creating a Safer Scenes booth to be at every single one of the 41 dates of the summer 2017 season.
This year more than ever we need to support young people across America and everyone invested in creating safer scenes in their communities. Our work on this tour will share resources to help concert goers use bystander intervention to prevent sexual violence, respond to racist incidents, and generally improve the music festival experience for everyone.
I've been devoted to teaching anti-racist, non-violent approaches to bystander intervention at music festivals, and I'm so excited to share this work with the crowds at Vans Warped Tour. The Vans Warped Tour is the largest traveling music festival in the United States and longest running touring music festival in North America.
This partnership presents an amazing opportunity to learn from festival attendees across the country and to give them concrete safety skills they can take home and use in their own communities well after the summer 2017 festival season is over.
Over the course of April 2017 and beyond our goal is to raise funds to facilitate the creation of the booth and distribution of useful and practical resources focused on making shows and festivals safer, especially for young women, queer and transgender people, people of different abilities, people of colour, and Muslim people.
We love music, shows, and festivals. We want to be part of making them as safe and accessible as possible for everyone. Your donation will go directly to making this a reality. Thanks so much for sharing this funding campaign, and for donating if you're able!
And please, come see us on tour when we roll through a city near you!!
Donations will go through my mom Sue while we're traveling the country all summer!!!
