Saige Kaczun - Team Canada Dance

Donation protected
Dear Sir/Madame,

My name is Saige Kaczun and I am a dancer.  I have been dancing at Jennifer’s Arts in Motion in Whitby for the last twelve years.  I am not sure I had my sights set on Team Canada when I started my dance journey but I do know that I have loved dancing ever since I put on my first pair of ballet slippers at the age of three.  I spend about 15 hours a week in the studio during the school months and maintain an 80% average at school.  I have been active in my community through Cuts for Cancer, various Food Drives, the Santa Claus Parade and Autism awareness.  During the summer months I continue to dance taking various drop-in classes or dance programs throughout Durham Region and the GTA.  This year I am also taking summer school to earn an extra high school course credit. I participate in B.A.T.D.  exams in either August or December (sometimes both) and have passed each exam with honors.  During recent B.A.T.D. examinations, I have been nominated for a ballet scholarship and a tap scholarship classes.

I am also a grade ten student in the performing arts program at O’Neill Collegiate Vocational Institute. This high school that is outside of my school zone and I must travel to school by city bus every day.  I knew it would be demanding when I auditioned for my place in the performing arts program, but it is worth every bus ride to be able to dance 5 days a week at school.   My mother often says I was born dancing, but I think that I was born to dance and I am so thankful for what my parents sacrifice so that I can follow my dreams.

In Canada, Dance is not recognized as a sporting event even though many dancers train 5 to 7 days a week, are as flexible as gymnasts, as graceful as figure skaters and as dedicated as any other Olympic athlete.  Ballet, Jazz and Modern Auditions were held in March for Team Canada Dance .  Of the over 300 dancers across Canada who auditioned, I was privileged enough to be selected to represent Canada in Wetzlar Germany in October.  It is an amazing opportunity to be able to work with some of the best choreographers in the province and improve my technique but more so I am honored and proud to be representing my country.

I would really appreciate if you or your organization could help by sponsoring a part of my expenses.  The cost for me to represent Canada starts at $3600 which will include airfare, hotel, transportation, licence fees, entry fees and membership fees.  Beyond the base cost, I am also responsible for choreography fees and costume costs for each dance.  Any amount that you could donate would be very much appreciated.  If you would like more information, please let me know.   It is my hope that my community will support my Team Canada experience and share in my excitement as we dance for Gold.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Saige Kaczun
