Paralympic Dream
Hi There!
My name is Sarah, I was born missing my left leg below knee as well as various finger amputations on both of my hands.
When I was 5 my parents enrolled me with Track 3 so I could learn how to ski. I skiied without my prosthetic and used outriggers as support. I competed provincially and loved it. However, at the age of 12 I became uncomfortable with all of the looks I was getting due to skiing with only one leg and asked my parents if I could begin to snowboard.
Unfortunately at the time Track 3 did not offer snowboard lessons so my brother and I were enrolled in classes at Blue Mountain. I took to it immediately and fell in love. It was a difficult sport to learn especially due to the fact that I was now wearing my prosthetic. Despite this I was determined.
I have now been snowboarding for 14 years and fall in love with the sportt more each year.
I never dreamed as an amputee I would have the oppourtunity to compete or even think of the Paralympics as a possibility.
I am committed to making my dream come true and showing disabled people everywhere that they have it within them to do what they love no matter what their physical limitation may be.
Unfortunately this is an expensive sport and I will have to travel to BC for some competitions as well as buy some new equipment. Please share this story and donate if you are able to. Any little bit helps :)
