Help Schnauzer Puppy Mill Rescue!

Donation protected
Sarge, a 7 year old tiny 10 lb. Miniature Schnauzer, was rescued Sunday, October 18, 2015 by Sheila's Schnauzies Miniature Schnauzer Rescue & Sanctuary, a private not for profit organization in Omaha, Nebraska since 1999, by purchasing him from a puppy mill breeder auction.

Sarge, a puppy mill survivor, is malnourished and will need surgical removal of his black, rotten and infected teeth. He will also need to be neutered, get all of his vaccinations, heartworm testing, flea and tick prevention, an extreme ear cleaning and some medications. I am estimating the cost of his vet care at $875 - $1000.  I am additionally allowing a small amount of gasoline expenses to help defray costs of transporting Sarge wherever in the U.S.  he eventually ends up in his forever home.

I am picking Sarge up to bring home today and will immediately take him to the vet to have all his needs cared for. I don't know where the money is coming from and am doing what needs to be done on faith. And that is why I am here to ask for your help.

I received word that Sarge, who has spent his entire life as a puppy mill breed dog, was up for auction along with many dozens of other purebred dogs being sold by the puppy mill breeder. Did I want him? Yes! Another rescue held this little sweet boy for me until I could pick him up.

I visited him the first time at the shelter holding him for me on Monday and spent a couple of hours getting acquainted. When I first saw him he flinched at every touch.

I played some Katrina Parker quietly on my phone to try and relax him. I stood in front of his open cage just talking gently to him. Eventually I touched his back and though he was shaking like a leaf, he allowed me to pet him and eventually I petted all over his body doing an exam for anything obvious. He tolerated this okay, so after awhile I picked him up and held him against me. After several minutes, his shaking stopped! Feeling lucky, I gave the poor filthy boy a bath and a 'fake' comb out. He put up with it all cheerfully!

I stood him on a table and laid a little treat down which he took after a brief hesitation. By the end of our time he had taken treats from my hand! He sniffed my hand and when I put my face to the cage door he sniffed me!!! This little guy is going to do great I have a feeling!!! From what everyone tells me, it does not usually go this well with puppy mill rescues.

My husband suggested the name, "Sarge." In thinking about it, the irony of such a strong name for such a tiny, timid boy kind of worked for me! So Sarge he shall be.

Although Sarge is AKC registered, he has brownish streaks thru his fur. According to his papers he is the color, "Liver."  Some breeders provide many different colors of Schnauzers for which they are able to command exceedingly high prices.

This little boy has never walked or slept on anything except a wire cage floor for the whole seven years of his life. He's never owned a toy, been called by a name, or slept in a dog bed;  never had human contact except for the bare minimum needed to move him around and feed him. He's never had a doggie friend or rolled in the grass in the sun. Today is going to be one very special day for him, I hope!

I am picking him up in a little while to bring him home and meet my two Schnauzer girls. Sarge can have a bright future with rehabilitation and finding him the perfect forever home. I will provide the work and the love. I just need help with the expenses. Thank you for whatever way you can help! God bless you.
