Vintage tug boats are a key part of the working waterfront in the Pacific Northwest. That is why it is so important to preserve vessels such as the Quail for posterity. Built by master craftsmen using simple materials of wood iron and brass, these wonderful boats have lasted for decades, and are a tribute to the level of craftsmanship that is now only a memory. Designed to withstand all of the worst the sea could deliver they are still found here doing what they were designed to do. WORK! Old wooden boats have warmth to them which could never be achieved by metal hulls.
With boats such as this in our marina, we can teach our community and children how unique they are. Also it would enable us to demonstrate boatbuilding craftsmanship so that future generations will have a solid platform on which to build vessels as long-lasting and easily maintained as these. For example the skill of machining large slow rpm diesel engines that require very little maintenance and have exceptional fuel economy.
Our objective is to create a Maritime Heritage center in Bremerton. We will be opperating as a Non Pofit to educate and share the collective Vision of maritme History.
This will give us the opportunity to showcase some of the best types of vessels which have been built in the PNW ranging from old wooden tugs to modern destroyers. Kitsap County was and still remains the home of many wonderful companies involved with boatbuilding and services that support the maritime industry. A maritime heritage center would be very informative and educational which would be a great asset to the community. It would also be very appropriate since there are so many maritime related activities in our area (I E: the PSNS, Bangor & Keyport and pleasure boating.
Our goal is to team with local not-for-profit organizations of like mind to achieve these objectives so that together we can greatly enhance the Bremerton Marina, Sinclair Inlet and surrounding businesses. This would create a wonderful maritime experience and bring more revenue to our area.
