Save the Bowmanville Zoo!

The purpose of this page is to save a family-run, small business that’s been in operation for almost 100 years in Bowmanville, Ontario, a small town much like many other small towns around Canada and the USA. This business has been an integral part of the heart and soul of this community, where my husband and children have been going since we moved to Bowmanville over 15 years ago. Now, I want to do my best to make sure that this place survives so I can bring my grandchildren, as well as creating the opportunity for thousands of others to do the same. This is about saving a business who over the last almost 100 years, has created thousands of jobs, has had millions of guests, and now needs our help.
Bowmanville Zoo has been under constant attack by a massive activist group. These big corporations hide behind the propaganda of activism and have become bullies, driving thousands of small businesses to bankruptcy. For decades, the heart and soul of our economy has been small businesses in small communities like Bowmanville, which are the backbone of our workforce and account for a large percentage of jobs nationwide. These are who we need to protect: the little guys. Both of my children have had the opportunity to work at the Bowmanville Zoo, becoming compassionate care takers of the animals and the attendees of the Zoo. We have had the privilege to be up close and personal with the staff and animals over the years and have seen nothing but kindness, caring and compassion to these beautiful creatures.
As most of you know, Bowmanville Zoo has decided to close its doors at the end of the 2016 season because of the vicious war that PETA has initiated over the last several years against this small business. Attendance to the zoo has dropped because organizations such as PETA need victims like Bowmanville Zoo so that they can justify their CEO’s astounding salary, and they can raise more money to further their own agenda. The more research that I’ve done about PETA the sadder I’ve become. I’ve included a link that give a better picture of this multinational corporation so you can actually educate yourself on these so-called “champions of animals”. On one website I read that 73% of the animals “rescued” by PETA are actually being killed by them- go to the following link to read more: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/05/pets-shelter-euthanization-rate_n_6612490.html.
In speaking to our local community, it seems the zoo, despite its best efforts, does not have enough money to stay in business past the end of the summer. So we turn to you the people of the world. Because at the end of the day the community of Bowmanville, while large, just might not be enough to fight off the bullies at our door.
Let me tell you about this zoo. As I mentioned both of my kids have worked at this zoo. I know the family that has been running this zoo for decades and they are good, honest and hard working people just like you and me. A few weeks ago, I was watching a movie with Matt Damon called “We Bought a Zoo”. Their story is almost identical to that of Bowmanville zoo. This is a family that has fought tooth and nail to keep the zoo in operation. The zoo doesn’t make money, they do it because they are passionate, loving and caring about their animals, and they put their animals before anything or anyone else. Many of these animals have been rescued, and the zoo always welcomes any animal in need. But now they’re in their time of need. The zoo has welcomed millions of kids from thousands of communities over the years. Some were terminally ill and faced a multitude of challenges but the zoo helped them to take a step away from their daily lives and forget about their own problems through love and compassion for the animals themselves. Many of those children have now grown up and it’s you who are reading this message. This zoo family, known for their community support and big hearts, has always celebrated the animal human bond in all its forms. I know that some of these multinational lobbyists want to tell you that zoos should be closed, but zoos as a whole have saved many species from extinction. They play a huge role not only in education, but also conservation, and provide a legitimate way that endangered species of animals could be returned to the wild.
I am hoping you will come to help these animals in their time of need. No donation is too small, and every dollar gets us closer to saving many jobs, and saving an almost 100-year-old institution. Donate now and share with your friends, become an ambassador for this cause, and help this zoo to stand up against these bullies. The animals should stay at the home they know and love.
