Help us to shine a teal light every Halloween
Halloween is supposed to be a fun and joyful holiday. But for almost 500,000 kids, it can be a scary time of year because of the potential risk of a reaction. Help us take the fright out of food allergies, and make Halloween a safer, more inclusive holiday for everyone.
We're shining a teal light on the issue! Teal has become the recognized colour for food allergies. That’s why we’re proposing a bright idea: to show your neighbourhood that you have allergy-friendly treats and toys for kids by replacing your porch light with a teal bulb, or by displaying other sources of teal light on your front porch.
Shining a teal light helps to create food allergy awareness and sparks conversations on how to support kids with food allergies.
Our GoFundMe goal of $50k is to fund national food allergy awareness, education, and a tangible way to show support
1. Showing tangible support
We’re hoping to get 50k teal bulbs created and distributed across Canada. With those bulbs we would include information on food allergy and how to support kids with this medical condition, essentially, creating ‘Shine a light’ bulb packages.
This means we’re asking for $1/bulb package = 1 family Shining a light on food allergies. We want to get as many as we can made so they can be widely distributed across Canada.
Plus, by showing a lot of support for this idea, it will help us secure a light manufacturer partner to also support this community and potentially provide their services at a lower cost or match the support given so we can make an even greater impact with the funds raised.
2. Educating the public on the seriousness of food allergies
One of the greatest needs from the food allergy community is to have a more informed public on the seriousness of food allergies. This campaign strives to do just that.
We are driving food allergy awareness so people learn more about food allergies and how to better support kids with them (like how to prevent reactions from happening).
3. Amplifying our reach with our long-term goal
In the long-term, our goal is to distribute food allergy educational packages, including teal lightbulbs, to every child in every school. This will help to vastly increase awareness of food allergies and what families can do to support people who have them (plus it will give them a tangible way to show that support).
