Help Support Students in a Flood
Donation protected
Hundreds of residents have been displaced. Many of those people are children who attend Shirakawa Elementary School. Students and their families have been adversely affected by San Jose's flood. In addition to being left without a home and transportation, countless families only have the clothes on their backs. Due to contaminates in the water, families will be forced to throw away almost everything.
Any donation will help us support our families at Shirakawa!
We, the teachers at Shirakawa School, are comprised of caring and dedicated teachers who not only support our students academically in the classroom, but socially and emotionally to ensure that all our students are well-rounded and good citizens of the society in which they live. We all come from various backgrounds, but we all can truly call Shirakawa School our home. Our teachers' breadth of knowledge span from 2 to 25+ years of experience.
Many of the families affected by the flooding have been part of Shirakawa's family for many years. They currently have students attending and older kids who've previously attended. Relationships with the affected families go beyond their child's teacher, but to all the teachers that their child or children have had in the past and may have in the future.
The funds collected will be used to purchase gift cards for families who have been displaced and affected by the flooding. Families that live within the affected area will be contacted. Families will be able to use the funds to purchase items to support their basic needs. A signature will be required from the family to indicate receipt of the gift card.
The set beneficiary for the funds will be Yvonne Sugimura. She is our Assistant Principal at Shirakawa School. In her six years at Shirakawa, three years as a teacher and three years as the Assistant Principal, she is very familiar and has rapport with many of the families at Shirakawa. She is our point of contact with families. She will be receiving the funds from this campaign and purchasing the gift cards from Walmart for distribution to families.
Once again, thank you to all for your support in getting our families back on their feet!
