Marcus
Freeman, a dear friend, brother, father, and son was a victim of a hit and
run accident on his way home late Sunday night, August 4th, 2013. Those of us who know Marcus are
aware that he is an avid bicyclist and uses his bike to get to and from work
and fun. His solo means of transportation is his bicycle; he knows how to
navigate the streets of Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas including Del
City, Norman, and Edmond better then anyone, because he has been riding them
his whole life. Marcus's BMX is his baby, as a bike mechanic he takes
pride in skillfully investing his time and energy in building and maintaining his
bike.
The driver of the vehicle left him and his bike in a heap on the side of the road. At this time we do not know all the details; How long he was left for dead? Who saved Marcus from the curb? or Why someone could consciously leave a LOVED man for dead on the side of the road? All Marcus could muster up to voice, after two days of spinal surgery in the ICU recover room and drugged from his trauma was: "I hit the brakes and then: "BAM!"
Today Marcus is alive, his bones are broken, his body covered in road rash, and his prized bike a mangled mess, but, today we are grateful that our friend Marcus is alive and in recovery at OU Medical. After two days of surgery, by Dr.Kahn, the number one spinal surgeon in OKC, at OU Medical's Intensive Care Unit. Marcus's spine has been fused together, and he has had a metal rod implanted in is neck to support the long term healing of his spinal injuries. His bones in his left arm and right leg have been cast and splinted so that he can begin to repair and heal.
Marcus needs our support now more then ever, Marcus has no medical insurance, or financial means to cover the doctor bills he has accrued to date. For Marcus the road to recovery has just started. He will expect to have more trips to the doctor, which will include possible surgeries, physical therapy, and medication for his trauma. Marcus needs our financial support to get through this, and our physical support as well; with no viable means of transportation he will need to get to and from all his future doctor appointments. Our prayers, thoughts, and well wishes will not wholly suffice as support for our friend Marcus. Now is your chance to give back and share the LOVE <3 Please help our friend, our brother, our father, and our son Marcus Freeman on his journey back to happiness and health towards a full recovery.
