170km Ultra Trail Mont Blanc for HD
Donation protected
Simon Turnbull is an ultra marathon runner, business owner of Enriched Health Care, a dad to a vibrant little girl Poppy, a husband to a very supportive and passionate woman Jenna... and our brother!
Simon is 39 years old (40 this month!) and also gene positive for a neurological brain disease called Huntington’s Disease, which is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities between the ages of 35-45yrs old, and has no cure. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene.
Simons mum, aunt and uncle have passed away over the last few years from the illness, after suffering with the symptoms of Huntingtons Disease for over 15 years. However, Simon isn’t letting this gene or fate stop him from living and running his life to the fullest!
Simon has qualified and committed himself, to running Ultra Trail Mont Blanc in Europe on the 26th August 2016. This race is the pinnacle of trail running and is 170km long with 10,000 metres of ascent gain around Mont-Blanc, which is above all to experience an internal adventure, a unique experience where he will have to draw from great strengths and push his mental and physical limits in order to cross the finishing line
Simon will do this run to raise awareness and funds for HDYO. An organisation set up to support other young people impacted by this disease. Check out the great work HDYO do here! http://en.hdyo.org/
Simon’s previous runs have set him up for this ultimate challenge. In the last twelve months Simon has completed the following runs...
May 2015 UTA 100km 4000m ascent
June 2015 Glow Worm Tunnel 42.2 1500m ascent
August 2015 GNW 100km 4000m ascent
October 2015 Hounslow 68km 3700m ascent
January 2016 Bogong 2 Hotham 62km 3500km ascent
March 2016 Port Macquarie Half 21.1 flat
April 2016 Buffalo Stampede 80km 4500m ascent
May 2016 UTA 100km 4000m ascent
Simon is an inspiration to all of us about what it takes to embrace life and all its challenges.. and beat them!
Let’s cheer him on and donate to help other young people living with Huntington’s Disease.
