Illegal Eviction Moving Expenses

Donation protected
Hello everyone!

If you don't already know me, my name is Kim Crawley. I write about computer security  , and now I make indie games, too.

I recently had a very modestly successful ($650) Kickstarter for my first game, Hackers Versus Banksters. I got to present my game at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival  , and I now get a $5 game sale about once every few days on Itch.io  .

But something terrible happened at around the same time. My husband and I were illegally evicted from our $950/month basement apartment in Toronto. The Kickstarter money had to go towards keeping us in hotels.

Our former landlords Tuta and Castriot Shurdha broke multiple laws under Ontario's Landlord Tenant Act. I had a trial at the Landlord Tenant Tribunal. The Shurdhas were formally summoned but didn't bother to show up for court, committing "contempt of court" under Ontario law.

Due to having very little money, I represented my husband and I in court. Apparently I did a very good job, because we were rewarded $6,000 when we originally asked for $3,000.

The tough part is going to be collecting that money when the Shurdhas have demonstrated zero respect for law and the courts. I've been advised to take them to small claims court to collect the money.

But filling in small claims court costs $75, and after moving into our new Hamilton apartment on June 1st, we will barely have money left over for groceries.

ODSP (disability) will pay us on June 1st, but after we pay for first and last month's rent for our new Hamilton apartment, we'll have less than $200 left for the whole month! And we still need to buy a new bed and file in small claims court! Plus Sean needs to travel to Toronto for all of his various medical appointments.

You guys have been wonderously generous before. Not only was my (second) Kickstarter mildly successful, my 2015 GoFundMe to make up for income lost as a Gamergate target helped us buy groceries and pay for public transit for months.

My Google+ and Twitter followers have indicated that they would help promote this new crowdfund. I'm really reluctant to do it, but I'd like to survive.

Any funds to this account would be a huge help and will help pay for:

- Groceries
- A new bed to sleep on
- Public transit fare to help Sean see his doctors
- Going after the $6,000 owed to us by our former landlords in small claims court

If you've helped me before or if you cannot afford to donate, promoting this fund on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and via email to friends would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!
