Study Abroad South Africa 2015: Education, Society, and Learning is proud to share with you that one of our service projects this summer is to build a reading center at a rural school in need of books. Our Michigan State University study abroad program spends 5 weeks in South Africa learning about education in South Africa. We attend lectures, visit historical museums and landmarks, experience important cultural customs and traditions, and visit plenty of schools in which we observe and interact with students and teachers. Some of the schools we visit are very under-resourced and in need of quality books for the students, which is what this fundraising campaign is all about!

We are so excited to get started on collecting books, specifically books that are purchased in South Africa to support their economy, to donate to a very deserving school. These books will also reflect the lives of the students reading them, so the quality of the books will be carefully considered when deciding on how to spend the generously donated money. It is very important to us that the students are able to personally connect on a deep level with the stories from the books we give them.

There is only one problem, we don't currently have the money to carry out this endeavor and need your help to raise the funds: we need to raise money to get as many high quality, South African books for the students to learn from and enjoy. Please help us raise the funds to be able to carry out this amazing service to the students at this school!
