Kalamazoo County Commissioner Stephanie Moore Seeks Re-Election for her Third Term
Stephanie Moore, Kalamazoo County Commissioner, District 1, also regarded as “The People’s Commissioner” has officially announced she will be seeking her third term as Kalamazoo County Commissioner. The following statement was released by Commissioner Moore’s campaign:

A community is only as strong as its citizens and the leaders who represent them.
Four years ago when I ran for Kalamazoo County Commissioner, it was with the belief that only through real transparency, accountability, and equity will this great District 1 and the entire County of Kalamazoo realize it's potential. This remains true. For this reason and more, I’m happy to announce my bid for re-election.

During my term as Kalamazoo County Commissioner, I’ve had the privilege to represent District 1 in various leadership capacities; Vice Chair and now Chair of the board.  I’ve served on the Public Housing Commission, the Community Action Triapartite Advisory Board, the Land Bank and Community Corrections board.  It has also been my privilege to champion for equity in order to address systemic racial and gender workplace environment issues within the County. It has not always been easy, but I’ve persevered largely because of your encouragement and support.

It’s no secret that the County has recently been plagued with internal issues that have resulted in some of the most embarrassing and outright disgraceful issues I’ve ever witnessed from a governmental entity in all of my years in civic service. It’s also no secret that a lot of those issues have been a direct result of those who would prefer the status quo that is working for some over change that could work for everyone.

I believe that as the citizenry becomes more aware, informed, and engaged, the County Commission will be able to hold ourselves and the County leadership accountable to promote a structured environment in order to provide equitable programs and services for all. We still have a County with some of the most beautiful parks in the State. We still have a County full of resources, programs, and services that most communities would give anything to have. And, we still have a County where a lot of our leaders and citizens work together in order to create a community where every citizen feels welcomed. It becomes my and your responsibility to make sure that what unites and strengthens us is greater than what divides and weakens us.

For four, I have proudly represented each of you and carried the banner to advocate for and support the issues most important to you including women’s rights, civil rights, economic justice, and LGBTQ rights. It would be my honor to continue to do so.
District 1, I need your votes and your support as I continue to represent you. This is a critical time for all of us. Going forward, the County Board of Commission has a number of items on our docket including the creation of the first Public Defenders office and contracting with a law firm to address the opioid crisis, and adopting the 2019 annual budget.  I want you to know that together, we will make our District and our County the best it's ever been.
