THE LION IN WINTER

My name is Bill Jackson. I'm an actor, director, and retired teacher here in Milwaukee. I've founded THE PRIDE THEATRE COMPANY for the purpose of producing the famous play, THE LION IN WINTER by James Goldman. It's been a dream of mine to direct and perform in this play. The money raised will produce this play at Milwaukee's popular ALCHEMIST THEATRE COMPANY here in Milwaukee.
The unique character of this production is the employment of a culturally diverse cast of a play that, like many, is cast traditionally. I've always wanted to make the case in our city that roles should be cast based on ability and professional standards. It's my goal to open roles for local actors who I believe are the finest I can find. This is a great play in a fine theatre with a remarkable cast. I have faith in the project.
Money will be used for production and actor stipends. Especially, I want to invest in extensive advertising. A recurrent problem in semi-professional non-Equity theatre locally is that the play isn't advertised to an audience that is large enough. I want to use various media including magazines, TV, and even movie theatres in addition to posters, cards, and flyers. I have access to remarkable artistic talent and I want to pay them a respectable wage.
I need the funds right away as our advertising campaign will be built in November and deployed the week before Christmas as well as into January as the play is booked to run the last week of January into the first week of February.
I've been a professional actor for forty years. I've directed over forty productions. I taught high school theatre, English, and writing for thirty years. This may be my swan song in the theatre. I envision a glorious play that will achieve critical acclaim and pack the house. THE LION has become my pet and I'm producing and directing with my full attention.
And by the way, I'm playing the role of Henry II. I've wanted to play this role since I was in college. It's near the bottom of my bucket list. I'm 6'8" tall and classified as "ambi-ethnic" in my eclectic career. It will never happen. The only way to achieve my dream is to construct it myself.
Why do people donate to theatre? It deserves to live. Large commercial theatre has its place certainly. So does regional theatre. Based on the generosity of the donations, particlularly or $250.00 or more, I offer percs, special gatherings, and tickets. It will be a great play and a super time. But there is no donation that is too small. It all contributes and I'm grateful for every centime!
It's good to know that my donors supported this play in the most fundamental ways. American Theatre, especially innovative plays like our THE LION IN WINTER are good investments that enhance the community.
My donors will receive my gratitude forever for helping me make this come true. A dream is built. I used to think it would come because I thought it was such a good idea. It is a good idea. But it needs more than just my desire and work. I can use the help.
Thank you for considering being part of THE PRIDE THEATRE COMPANY'S production of THE LION IN WINTER.
