Students Need Your Help!

Donation protected
The Karafin School is a place where miracles happen.
Students who believe they cannot learn, discover they can.
Students who have lived with failure, experience success.
Students who have been friendless are accepted and included.
Students bowed down by bullying and discrimination lift their heads and smile.

"Karafin is a unique school. It’s like no other school I’ve ever been to."

“The Karafin School quickly became my safe haven and a place where someone like me could thrive.”

“I am very grateful that this school offered me so much and enabled me to learn the way I wanted to learn.”

The Karafin School is a small, private high school where students who have been unable to succeed in school are able to thrive.  It is a school where students graduate with Regents, Advanced Regents, or local diplomas.  70% of our graduates are accepted by, and enrolled in, colleges upon graduation.

Karafin serves a diverse population of students.  Students come together from all five boroughs of New York City, Westchester, Orange, Putnam, Dutchess, and Ulster counties, as well as from Connecticut to form a community many refer to as the Karafin Family. Students are taught in small classes of six with a teacher and an aide. Guided by a curriculum which is parallel to the mainstream and aligned to the common core, students follow a course of study laid down in their Individualized Education Plans. They are led by teachers who truly care and who are guided by Dr. William Glasser’s philosophy that if the fear of failure is removed, every student can succeed.

Why We Are In Need:
Since opening our doors, a high ratio of staff to students has always been, and continues to be essential to the truly individualized education we offer. We have also held true to our commitment not to ask our students or their families to contribute to the costs of running the school. The students are 100% publicly funded, and the school's tuition rate is set by the New York State Education Department. This rate has not been raised since 2012: in fact, it has been lowered. The rate is lower than any comparable school in the state. As a result of COVID, our enrollment numbers are also currently down 25%, which adds to the difficulties our school is facing. We are therefore turning to our friends, neighbors, and colleagues for support.

Our community of 40 staff, including administrators, teachers, counselors, teachers’ aides, and support staff has made financial sacrifices.

We do this to support our students.

It is not enough!

We need your help. Our students rely on us. We cannot fail them.

Karafin has been dedicated to helping every student achieve his or her maximum potential for more than sixty years.

Raising $120,000 will give us the funds required to ensure the school keeps its doors open.

Please help us continue our journey.

Every contribution will help no matter how little or how much.
