For those of you who met Chaco de la Pitoreta on his speaking tour in Iowa, and asked what YOU could do to help and stand in solidarity with Hondurans... here is your chance!!!
Chaco is working to print and distribute a bilingual book in the indigenous "Tol" language and in Spanish. The book is filled with poetry and is dedicated entirely to the cultural and social reality of the Tolupan indigenous community in Honduras.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Solidarity with indigenous communities in Honduras is vital. Indigenous leaders in Honduras are persecuted, tortured, and killed for defending their identity and natural resources. (See: Three members of the same Honduran environmental group have been murdered over the past 4 months ).

FUNDING AND TIMELINE:
***Professor Tomas Cruz Murillo, a teacher in the Tolupan indegious community, is providing the translation of Chaco's poetry into the Tol language in October 2016.
***The book will be printed in November 2016. Your donation will go directly to printing costs -> (300 books x $3 each to print = $900).
***Book distribution events in Tolupan schools and communities will be held in December 2016 and January 2017. Additional copies will be donated to sustain a community radio project called Tu Voz y Mi Voz. This program, from Radio Progresso, supports and accompanies the Tolupan community in their struggle for justice.
***Thank you rewards will be sent in January and February 2017. If you would like to donate but are not interested in a reward (or you would like a personally designed thank you), let's talk!

***A book in the Tol language… offers printed texts for a community whose language is otherwise largely sustained by oral tradition.
***A book in the Tol language… provides an educational tool for Tolupan communities, to be used with youth and schools, and for the formation and preservation of Tolupan indigenous traditions and identity.
***A book in the Tol language… reminds us that Honduran art should not be disconnected from indigenous languages, and printing texts in Tol create accessible art for more Hondurans to experience.
***A book in the Tol language… shows that Hondurans are a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and diverse community, living in one single territory, but with many different world perspectives.
***A book in the Tol language… demonstrates to the international and national community that the Tolupan people and the Tol language are vibrant parts of Honduran culture, and provides further justification to defend, protect, and conserve the natural resources and the area where the Tolupan community lives.
***A book in the Tol language… creates further demand on the Honduran government to respect, dignify, and defend the self-determination and free existence of democratic indigenous community.
