YOUth Riot by Third Street Theatre
Donation protected
Every story deserves to be heard.
Did you know that LGBTQIA2 youth are more likely than their peers to:
Use and abuse drugs.
Run away from home.
Become homeless.
Commit suicide.
Third Street Theatre has created YOUth Riot: a free 12-week playwriting program for Calgary's queer teens (ages 13 - 20) beginning February 19th in partnership with Calgary Outlink. Participating teens will get the opportunity to learn playwriting, storytelling, and project development from some of Calgary's top theatre professionals. The program will culminate in a showcase presentation of original pieces created by participants.
YOUth Riot has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts, which allows us to deliver this program at no-cost to the participants, meaning that no teen who wants to express themselves will be turned away. Donations to this GoFundMe campaign will allow Third Street Theatre to hire the very best theatre professionals in Calgary to teach in this 12-week program. Having access to professional theatre artists will give the participating teens an opportunity to explore their stories with knowledgeable mentors who are highly skilled at addressing personal and social questions through theatrical arts.
Your contribution will give LGBTQIA2 youth in Calgary the opportunity to explore and tell their story in a way that is meaningful and authentic to them.
