A Kidney for Teagan

My daughter Teagan was born with a rare kidney disease called Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome of the Finnish Type.  This causes a variety of problems due to her kidneys losing essential proteins and invariably leads to total kidney failure.  Teagan has already had one kidney removed and is currently on daily peritoneal dialysis as we wait for a kidney transplant.


Its been a very long road so far - Teagan was born premature at 32 weeks, she's been hospitalized dozens of times, has a compromised immune system, she's had 6 surgeries, two central lines, has a feeding tube and has an in-dwelling dialysis catheter.   She is the most remarkable little girl and has been so strong through all of it.  I am so blessed to have her in my life.


The time is nearing for her transplant surgery.  She is now big enough to receive a donor kidney.  She has matched with a potential live donor who is available in the fall and she has been activated for consideration of a deceased donor as well.  We will go with whichever option presents first and is the best fit for Teagan.  We could match any time now.  This process is very expensive.  We have to be ready to travel out of state at a moments notice for the surgery and we have to live out of state near her hospital for a couple months following the surgery.
