A Spelman Experience: Further Explorations of Historically All Women's Institutions...
Greetings,
My name is Youtee Wheagar and you’re hearing from me today because I need your help. Throughout this semester, I've been challenged as I balance academics and financially supporting myself through school. Since my freshman year in college, I've managed to balance three work-study jobs and my academic career. My long-term goal is to teach. Now, in my junior year at Mount Holyoke College, I am presented with the opportunity to attend Spelman College next semester as a domestic exchange student. Attending Spelman would be a dream come true. Unfortunately, my current financial circumstance does not allow for this dream to be realized.
As a first-generation, low-income, college student from Trenton, New Jersey, these financial hardships are not uncommon to my narrative. For the past 10 years, my mom has been battling a severe mental disability and for the past 4 years, my dad has been battling cancer - thankfully, he's in remission. However, as a result of these critical illnesses, my parents are both unemployed and unable to help.
Despite working three jobs throughout the year, I haven’t been able to raise enough money to cover the cost of Spelman. Of equal importance, is the fact that I will not be able to continue with those jobs while at Spelman, as work-study is not included in my financial aid offer. With your donation, I can overcome the deficit in financing this opportunity. Please make a donation if you can on my GoFundMe page below.
I thank you for giving and/or sharing my GoFundMe page. Again, thank you for your generosity.
Fees:
Tuition: $1,500
Airfare: $500
Local transportation: $300
Bills: $500
Books: $250
Meals not included in meal plan: $200
GoFundMe 8% takeout: $280
