Young Life El Salvador Mission Trip

Young Life is a world wide christian youth group that helps teenagers in high school develop a personal relationship with God. Our community's local group is preparing to go on their annual mission trip to Monte Cristo in El Salvador. They go each year for 1 week in February. My family has been involved with this for organization for many years now and this will be the 3rd consecutive year that at least one member of our family has participated in this mission trip. This coming February, my husband, Greg, and our oldest daughter, Emmaleigh, will be going. While there they will help teach the children in the village about God, they will also help with projects that the village needs (past projects include building latrines, showing villagers how to grow vegetables, installing a clean well system with a purifier for clean drinking water, etc).

There is no doctor or medical facilities near the village of Monte Cristo - the closest would be a few hours away. Monte Cristo is only accessible by boat, which makes transportation more difficult. Greg is hoping to fundraise enough money to be able to purchase a hand-held auto refractor to be able to perform eye refractions for the people of this community (brand new ones can be anywhere from $8-10k - a refurbished one will also be considered). Eyeglass frames and lenses will be donated by our optical as well as by some of our vendors.

The first $3000 raised will help fund the actual trip and projects that have already been planned for. Any amount above and beyond will go towards the purchase of the auto refractor.
