Karen was diagnosed with Stage 3 Rectal Cancer in April of this year. She has been a fighter and has endured 28 rounds of radiation, as well as double chemotherapy treatments for over 4 months. Karen works for King Soopers at Harmony Rd and JFK Pkwy, but has been unable to work during her treatments. She will have surgery in December and is planning to return to work in February 2019.
Fighting cancer is hard in many ways, but combined with not being able to work, it is financially difficult. Karen is thankful for her employer sponsored benefits, which have helped tremendously. Even with her benefits, Karen has been paying for the many costs associated with her illness, such as copays, deductibles and unplanned time away from home.
Even through this battle, Karen has maintained her independence and provided for her two sons who are also helping as much as they can.
