Abeni's Surgery Fundraiser
Hello family far and near,
It's finally time! I started transitioning about five years ago. Initially I identified as non-binary, started using the honorific "Mx." in my teaching career, and began experimenting with feminine fashion.
About two years ago I changed my name, started hormone replacement therapy, and started identifying as a trans woman. 2018 is where, with your support, I can take the next step: surgery.
While I am mostly happy with my body and gender presentation, the one aspect of my body that gives me dysphoria - which contributes heavily to my depression - is the fact that I do not have breasts.
Because I started transitioning at a late age, hormones have not produced the breast growth I hoped for. Other than electrlysis on my facial hair, which I can afford, I am not interested in any other procedures. Just breasts!
With your support I can access this surgery, which will immeasurably improve my quality of life by reducing the degree to which I get "clocked" (harassed once recognized as a transgender person) and helping me feel more comfortable in my body.
If you know me, you know I have and continue to give my life to the QTPOC community that, though suffering immeasurably from transphobia and racism, has sustained me and given me life even in my darkest moments. I will continue to be a champion for justice and equality in my community building work, my role as an advocate against the criminalization of LGBTQ youth of color, my art and my writing.
If you donate $50 or more and request one, I will draw you a dope digital portrait! See examples of my work here: https://abenijones.net/portraiture/
Thank you so much for reading, and if you can't donate I totally understand and ask you to just please spread the word!
