My name is Patience Buckwalter the CEO/Founder of Grape Leaf Cafe, LLC and Empowerment Center (which is currently working on becoming a non-profit). Grape Leaf Empowerment Center, Inc. was established to bridge the gap for our Refugee and Immigrant families by providing a HUB of community services that provide culturally sensitive case management and resources for as long as they are needed.
Grape Leaf Empowerment Center officially opened on January 2, 2019. We had a busy 3 weeks! We received 4 official referrals, multiple inquires from professionals and perspective clients. We honored those that have commited to our center with a "soft opening" January 23rd, 50 people attended, including a professionals, reporter from our local newspaper (article to be coming very soon) and donors. We are eager share with organizations about the work we are doing. We have already shared at the local YWCA, and a local counseling center.
Many people have asked, what sets this center apart? The Grape Leaf Empowerment Center was created out of the needs of the refugee and immigrant community. They have voiced they want a center to call their own, and that is what we want for them. The hope is they feel empowerment, able to access services and feel part of the community as our neighbors! We also will have a focus on mental health services for our clients (that is culturally sensitive).
The funds raised will go towards our operating budget, and offering unique workshops/groups fitting the needs of our refugee and immigrant neighbors! If you are unable to give financially, please consider sharing this campaign!,
We have an awesome board, community and vision to make this Empowerment Center a hub for our refugee and immigrant neighbors! A huge shout out to James Street Mennonite Church, for donating us the space as we start out! (here is a video of our space, before we moved in). https://www.facebook.com/559545703/videos/10161104148660704/ (me with members of Trinity Lutheran Church when I received the Challenge Grant fund award)
(our ready nook- sponsored by Reach out and Read")
(Listening to me share at our "soft opening")
(sharing at the YWCA lunch & learn 1/30/19)
