AED - Eagle Scout Project

A.E.D. (Automated External Defibrillator)
Sudden cardiac arrest kills 300,000 people every year in the USA, with a dismal survival rate of 5%. When an AED is applied and used during the first minute, the survival rate goes up to 90%. Without an AED the survival rate goes down 7-10% every minute.
As of today there are several Police departments in Austin County that do not have a single AED available in their department, and in emergency situations, on-duty officers often arrive before EMS. These are life saving tools! I know this because an AED saved my dad’s life.
On May 14, 2017 my family and I were having dinner at a local restaurant when my dad suddenly slumped over on the table. We thought at first he was choking, but soon realized he did not have a pulse. We got him on the ground and started CPR. Soon the fire department arrived with the AED, shocked him, and took over CPR until EMS arrived. Because of the quick use of the AED my family is still enjoying dinners with my dad
Because of this, I have dedicated my Eagle Scout project to raising money to purchase AEDs for our law enforcement agencies.
Note - we will combine our funds with a government grant/discount to purchase more AEDs for multiple towns across Austin County.
