Hello, my name is monir Shaker and I am the father of Anastasia Marie Shaker. My daughter Anastasia was diagnosed with anencephaly at 20 weeks into my wife’s pregnancy during my anatomy scan. This news was beyond devastating and in our hearts, all we wanted was to bring our little girl home. So, my wife and I decided to go along with the pregnancy, deliver her normally, have her cremated, and sent home with us.
What is anencephaly:
Anencephaly is a defect in the formation of a baby's neural tube during development. Anencephaly is a fatal birth defect that occurs when a baby is born without parts of their brain and skull. It's a type of neural tube defect (NTD) that happens when the upper part of the neural tube doesn't close properly during fetal development. A baby born with anencephaly might be stillborn or survive only a few hours to a few days after birth. About 1 in every 5,250 babies is an anencephaly baby born in the United States.
My baby girl Anastasia Marie Shaker was born on September 23rd, 2023, approximately at 3:46 pm and died at 4:20 pm after birth. She weighed 2lbs 5.3oz, length 14ins. At 31 weeks gestation.
My wife , Christina shaker , and I have had multiple genetic testing and fertility tests after our daughter's passing to see what could have caused our daughter to have such a horrible diagnosis that no parent should ever have to bear. Her placenta was also taken for testing and it was determined that there wasn’t anything that they saw genetically that could have caused her condition. It was determined by genetic counselors that it was not genetically passed down from us and nor do we have any disorders like blood clotting disorders etc. that would cause this diagnosis. But at the time of me conceiving, explained by the genetic counselor, when I conceived my daughter, something happened around that time that stopped the developmental process and made it that the rest of her spine and brain not finished, from whatever environmental cause at the time and in my home, an apartment that we thought was safe, isn’t. We have been dealing with bats, probably about over 100+ in our attic that have been defecating and getting into our home. And my husband and I feel that the bat feces had a play into our daughter’s death.
What we need the money for:
We need to raise 3 thousand dollars in order to pay for all the testing of the apartment to find out what toxins are in the air of our home of almost 3 years living in not knowing the horrors of what’s in the attic!
We all need to be tested by an environmental specialist:
Any type of disease or toxins that the bat feces may be causing, such as black mold, histoplasmosis, etc., to prove it's toxic to humans and we financially need help. How we found out about the bats and didn’t know till recently how many are up there, our landlord kept this a big secret and didn’t tell us anything about this situation prior to us moving in!
Back in April of 2022, my family moved into our second-floor apartment with an attic but blocked off for tenants. At first, everything was good. Then around May 2022, we talked to the downstairs neighbor in the bottom apartment. She asked us if we had seen any bats in our apartment which we hadn't seen any but she let us know that's the reason the last people who lived here moved out for! Well now to June 2022, we had multiple bats in the home flying around. So everyone knows I have toddlers at home who are terrified of the bats. And since June 2022, my husband has been taking bats outside the house every day during bat season.
My family appreciates any bit of financial help or just sharing this story to a friend or family member to help us get this out there!
Thank you for helping my family in this tough situation.
