Helping Prepare Children in Rural Vietnam for Healthy, Successful Lives

THE STORY:

Founded in 1988, the Aid to Children without Parents (ACWP) helps economically disadvantaged and underserved children in rural Vietnam to succeed in life through education, economic development, training and healthcare.

During 2017, this highly regarded NGO will head to rural Vietnam with a student run volunteer medical outreach group from University of California at Berkley. During this visit, the group will provide mobile medical clinics for the benefit of low income children and adults, traveling extensively in rural areas.

This is where Michael Buxbaum and I enter the picture and need your help...

We are successful, career photographers/photojournalists that are now in the fortunate position to donate our time, professional services and resources to ACWP. Our commitment of time, talent and resources will be directed to documenting and creating impactful visuals to help promote ACWP and the work that they do in support of children in need.

Our goal in posting this request, is to respectfully ask for financial assistance from good folks like you, to help supplement our own contributions to ACWP and help in their efforts to positively impact the lives of more children.

ACWP programs include education, healthcare, and economic development with a methodology of caring and nurturing through a One-Child-at-a-Time philosophy.

The life cycle of the ACWP program is to guide and support each child from primary school through college. Construction of new schools provide primary education for free in remote villages. Financial assistance is made available to high school students with academic excellence so they can continue on at the university level. The mobile medical clinics and doctor visits help to keep the children healthy and happy so they have the best chance at success.

ACWP also maintains 22 culinary schools so that students have culinary training for future self-sufficiency both on their own and via BLOOM restaurant in Saigon (Because Love Overcomes One’s Misfortune) which is run by and benefits the ACWP organization and the culinary students.

Beyond the mobile health clinic, each child is provided one doctor visit a year, free corrective surgery for those disadvantaged children who suffer from birth defects as well as direct in-kind financial aid to those who are victims of natural disasters.

ACWP is a key contributor to making positive change happen in children’s lives and Michael and I are grateful for the opportunity to donate our time, resources and services to this organization as they initially focus on Vietnam. We are hoping that you agree with this effort, and will make a contribution towards our budget and efforts while we are in Vietnam this May.

We are guided by the inspiration of these words from Gandhi, “Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellow-men.”

Thanks for your consideration and please do let us know if you have any questions or comments!
