In the 1980s and 1990s AIDS disproportionally affected four marginalised groups in society: gay/bisexual men; African communities; haemophiliacs; injecting drug users.

Yet it influenced the whole nation, having a profound impact on society as an illness, a source of discrimination but also for solidarity.  AIDS brought many different communities, with different values, together to fight for a common cause.

AIDS Memory UK is a new charity which is being set up to create a permanent public art installation to be a memorial not just to the memory of all those communities who came together and all the individuals that were affected, but beyond all the pain and loss, to provide a bridge between the past, the present and towards an HIV undetectable future (#EndAIDS2030).  In so doing we will celebrate a coming together of diverse communities then and now for our collective futures in Britain.

As a new organisation we need initial funding to help support fundraising initiatives, as well as ultimately in the establishment of this memorial.

The first amount we are looking to raise, is to help in the running of fundraising events during the London AIDS History and Culture Festival running in July.  More details of the festival and programme of events, many of which are free, can be found here: https://aidsfestival2018.wordpress.com/programme/

We would welcome all donations, no matter how small, as believe this is a powerful message and a great cause.

Many thanks for your support.
