Aiming for Early Literacy&Education
The Arrow fandom has proven itself time and time again to be a group of incredibly generous people. We've raised money for all sorts of worthy causes, and this one is no different.
Studies show children need daily at-home experiences with books to increase their exposure to the written word, literature, and a variety of informational topics, concepts, vocabulary, and cultures.
The development of early literacy skills through early experiences with books and stories is directly linked to a child's success in learning to read.
The harsh reality is that two thirds of low-income families own no books for their children.
With nearly one in five urban preschoolers living below the federal poverty level, the need for books is huge.
And, considering the benefits of multicultural books, but their general lack of availability, the need for culturally diverse books is even bigger.
Every $25 means another child gets a collection of books to keep and read over and over and over again. $500 supplies an entire classroom of children
with books to take home and keep.
With a goal of $1500, we can supply 60 children in the Portland area (where the author of Arrow ABCs resides) with their own starter libraries through the Children's Book Bank of Multnomah County.

But we can do better than that, right?
We would also like to raise another $1500 for a charity in Singapore, where the illustrator of the Arrow ABCs resides. Mainly I Love Kids (MILK) is aimed at empowering promising young persons who come from low-income households. It ensures that promising and deserving youth are not denied a tertiary education because of financial hardship. We believe that through higher education these disadvantaged youths will realize their fullest potential and break out of their poverty cycle.

At the end of this fundraiser we will choose five donors at random to recieve a copy of the Arrow ABCs book. If we can surpass our goals we might even add some other incentives!
