On sept 16th , Troy and I took our baby girl to target optic center to get some glasses. We noticed that she was holding her book and ipad pretty close to her face and she was having a difficult time learning her colors. When we got there, the optometrist checked her eyes and noticed an obstruction of the optic nerves behind her right eye. She seemed very concerned and referred us to Loma Linda for an immediate MRI. When we got to the emergency room at the hospital, nurses didn’t seem too concerned. One nurse even told me I would be better off making an appointment because this MRI isn’t a priority. I let them know I would wait however long it took to ensure that my daughter would be seen. After waiting 8 hours we were finally called back. She saw an on call ophthalmologist and she agreed that Alahna needed the MRI. Alahna had to be sedated and was taken to get the MRI (with me and troy following right behind her).
After the MRI was complete, we were taken back to our room in the ER. After what seemed like years, 2 doctors came to speak with us. They delivered the devastating news that Alahna’s MRI showed a Craniopharyngioma (brain tumor located on the pituitary gland) the size of a golf ball behind her right eye. The news I never wanted to hear. I felt like I was going to pass out, I was hoping to wake up and it would all be a dream. Immediately troy and I called our families and they were at the hospital. A neurosurgeon came in to explain the MRI to us and advise us of what to expect in the days to come. Alahna was admitted that night at 1am as an impatient.
On sept 20th Alahna was taken to the neurosurgery floor to undergo brain surgery. The neurosurgeon advised me that they would be creating an incision from her mid scalp to just below her right ear. The delicate surgery would take a minimum of four hours and they would try their best remove all of the tumor. An anesthesiologist came and started administering the medications to sedate Alahna. They wheeled her into the operating room and I could hear her screaming “mommy don’t let them hurt me”. Tears rolled down my eyes as I watched the doors shut behind her and the team of doctors.
I hate to be in this position, asking people for money, but due to the circumstances I have been unable to work. I have been caring for Alahna 24/7. We are very behind on bills and need to afford Alahnas medication. Anything helps. Please pray for my baby during this trying time.
