Strides for Sapundjieff: Run AK-FL
Donation protected
Hello everyone and first of all thank you for reading my story. My name is David Kilgore. My sixth grade teacher, Mr. Sapundjieff, was diagnosed with brain cancer during May of 2014 .
I will be embarking on an expedition no one has done before. I will be running from Juneau, Alaska back to my home state of Florida to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Mr. Sapundjeff, my sixth grade teacher, long time supporter, and friend developed brain cancer this past year. This run is to raise money for him, his family, and awareness for the American Cancer society.
Mr. Sapundjieff has gone through a lot these past six monthes. Many treatments and due to his recent health has had to retire from his job at Christa McAuliffe Elementary school. John Adams once said: “Before any great things are accomplished, a memorable change must be made in the system of education…to raise the lower ranks of society nearer to the higher.” That is exactly what you did for me, you helped me rise higher than what I needed to be. I remember when I found out that I was in Mr. Sapundjieff’s class going into the sixth grade. I heard all the rumors that he was a challenging teacher and I was a little nervous at the time, to say the least. I would also have to say that the rumors weren’t to far from the truth because it was challenging and he held us to a higher level of learning. He didn’t only hold us to a higher level of learning, but he cared and helped each and every one of us along the way. It’s funny how I realize things the older I get and how special people were that helped me along the way. At the time in his 6th grade class I didn’t realize or understand his compassion and love for each and every one of his students. I realized when I heard that he had followed my running all those years and still spoke to me to your current classes. He stuck with me all these years. That is love. I realized he had love and pride for the students he taught because he took a part in developing all of us. Mr. Sapundjieff continues to inspire and teach me to attack my dreams with full force through hard work and maybe one day I will be able to have affected as many lives as him. Mr. Sapundjeff is my memorable moment.
I will begin my run during the first week of August. The route will be around 4,000 miles and I plan on completing 30-55 miles per day. I am asking for other individual donors to donate a dollar for every mile that I complete. Everyone will be able to follow my progress as I make my way Southeast through North America, through videos on our facebook page and on my own page: www.floridadistanceproject.com
Mr. Sapundjieff is not only a mentor and leader to all the students he has been involved with, but is also a family man. He has a wife and young teenage son who he loves dealry. He has touched the lives of so many and now it is our turn to help him. Lets help him get better to allow him to continue to teach and touch many more lives.
Please help if you can. If you're not in the financial position to donate, a prayer and positive energy would always be appreciated and welcomed for the Sapundjieffe friends and family.
Thank you for reading.
