Aleena & Emmett Myocarditis Walk-a-Thon
Donation protected
We are the proud moms of Emmett Greco & Aleena Khatib.
Emmett was born on August 2nd, 2015, 7lb. 12 ounces. A happy healthy baby boy, so we thought. Sadly, our baby was taken from us on August 10th, 2015 at 8 days of age. We were left with many unanswered questions as to what happened. Emmett showed no symptoms of having anything wrong with him and when the coroner called us, he told us our son passed away from Myocarditis.
Aleena a vibrant, beautiful 4-year old little girl full of life, and so loved by us, her grandparents and many others. Aleena was a strong, active and very bright, loving little girl. Aleena suddenly became ill with symptoms beginning with puffy eyes, tiredness and overall feeling unwell. She was taken 3 times to hospital in 2 days. On her 3rd visit she was taken via ambulance and died in the emergency room at LHSC on March 9th, 2016.
Myocarditis is a condition where the muscular walls of the heart become inflamed. There are many causes of Myocarditis including infection, medications, chemical and radiation. In most children and infants, Myocarditis is triggered by an infection, usually viral, involving the heart. Symptoms of Myocarditis may be subtle, making the diagnosis difficult.
There is not a day that goes by where we are not wondering the “what if’s ”. In order to continue to move forward each day & make a difference in honor of our children, Emmett & Aleena, we feel it is necessary to raise awareness & funds to help further research in hopes of one day finding a cure.
With your help, we can make our 4th Annual Event a successful one!
