Alex goes to Baby Champ
Donation protected
Last September, Alex participated in a study in Roanoke, Va called Baby CHAMP, which also stands for Childrens Hand Arm Movement Project, allowing Alex to receive intensive OT therapy 3 hours a day, 5x a week to help create new pathways in his brain for using his right arm/hand. Due to his stroke, his right arm was very weak. Because 80% of your brain pathways are formed by the age of 3, this therapy is critical to assisting Alex become as independent as possible and maximize use of his right arm/hand. Alex's participation in this study not only helped achieve usage of his shoulder and elbow, the study is now moving onto Phase 3 of clinical trials and is gaining huge traction! However, we are no longer eligible to participate, as it is for children 8-24 months old, but they do offer out of pocket therapy in their clinic. The cost of this therapy is over $10,000. We know it's so important to do this therapy early, and with the best therapists we know, so we are going back to Roanoke for Round 2, hoping to get additional use of Alex's wrist, hand and (hopefully!) fingers. We were originally scheduled for UVA's program, but at the last minute, our therapist was injured, and the team in Roanoke is able to accommodate us! We are so grateful to be able to do this for Alex.
Any assistance is so very much appreciated!!
