Alex's rescue surgery

Donation protected
Alex is a deaf Dogo mix who was abandoned on the streets of Miami. He was picked up by Miami Dade Animal Services (MDAS) who took less than good care of him.

He had a tennis ball sized, ruptured and bleeding tumor on one of his paws. He had terrible skin irritaion/dermatitus and was loaded with intestinal parasites.

MDAS scheduled him to die because he wasn't adoptable.....he wasn't worth saving.

We went to visit him at the request of DREAM (Dogo Rescue Every Animal Matters). We could tell right away this was a kind soul worth saving

With the help of Lissette Alvarez from FurAngels Rescue in Miami, we were able to get MDAS to release Alex to our care. He looked like a sled dog pulling us out of that place. We took him home to freedom.

After we got him home we removed his bandages and cleaned him up. Poor baby, we found this horrible ruptured tumor on his foot

The sight and smell of this thing is indescribable. We knew it was going to take a lot to fix this. And we knew we had come too far with this baby to give up.

This pup is so calm and loving, even when we were scrubbing and cleaning this mess he only winced, no growl, no aggression. He is a kind soul. We knew what to do.

We brought our Dogo, Mike, in to give us his opinion and he agreed, Alex needed our help.

So we got the earliest appointment we could with Boca Delray Animal Hospital here in Delray Beach and we went to find help.

We met Dr Angel, seriously that's his name. And after explaining our situation we took the bandage off. Dr Angel was horrified. He was beside himself because he knew what it would take to fix Alex's paw. He tried to be nice as he told me how expensive these things are and all the work they would have to do. He was having a harder time with the situation than we were.

I told him we had to try. Alex's kindness seemed to sway the Doc into trying. Dr. Angel sharpened is pencil and started cutting costs. He started by doing his labor for free, then he started dropping all the supplies and surgical equipment prices down to cost. I almost couldn't believe how this dog's gentle demeanor affected everyone.

By the time the Vet was done, he dropped an almost $4,000 surgery down close to $2,000. Still a crapload of money but seeing the effect this kind and loving animal was having, I agreed to funding the surgery. It took most of the day, the Doc had to get all his profitable work done first (understandable). Finally at the end of the day we got the results

He only lost a toe. He can walk again. He has a chance to live a normal life again. This Monster tumor that almost sentenced him to death at MDAS was gunna go in the biohazard trash can!

Now comes the hard part. We hope a few of you know the love of a good dog.  The endless wag of a tail when you walk into the room. A geniuine happiness from a pup that wants no more than some time and attention from you.

Help pay it forward. Give a little in the name of the love that some four legged tail wagging, face licking love machine that made you smile. We get enough back from this rescue and we are so gunna go rescue another run down, flea bitten, ugly mongrel that won't have a chance any other way.

I think one of the most beatiful parts of this ordeal is the Vet Tech, Melissa. She was there when the Doc and I were trying to negotiate a "for-cost" surgery for our Alex and was so moved by it all she handed me a $20 gift card to help offset the cost. It brought a tear to my eye.

#Not All People Suck

We don't need it all back, although it would help. Just enough so we can recover and do it again.

Then we'll open another gofundme and hit you up again....and again.

Every dog deserves a home....

But every home doesn't deserve a dog.

Help us make this right and we'll keep going, I swear.

Peace and light.
