Amazing Kids Happen: An animated educational film

Help me make an autism awareness short animation featuring 14 bright children who want to share their experiences in the autistic spectrum to help their non-autistic peers understand them better.


A few years ago ago I released a short animation to help explain autism to non-autistic children. It's called Amazing Things Happen.

It took 2 years to make (as I worked on it in my spare time). It has had over 77 Million views and both The National Autistic Society and the Royal College of General Practitioners recommend it as a teaching tool. It has be translated into 33 languages to date.

Last year, I launched a campaign to fund a follow-up animated series with autistic kids telling their own stories. The platform I used then operates under an all-or-nothing structure, which means that the campaign won't receive any of the money pledged if the target isn't reached. Unfortunately the campaign didn't reach its target so it was cancelled on the last day.

However, with help from ADDvance in Hertfordshire, I did gather interviews with 14 amazing children, which I would still love to turn into an animation. Thanks to some talented friends, 240 minutes of valuable insight have now been condensed into a single 5 minute episode.

£9,900 would allow me to focus on the animation full-time and turn away other work, in other words, finishing the animation in a month instead of 2 years, and sharing it with the world that much sooner. The money will also allow me to compensate those who have already been so helpful and generous with their time.

Once finished, the animation will be made available online under a Creative Commons License CC BY-NC-ND. The intention is to make this content easily accessible, so that this important message can be shared across the world and hopefully help provide non-autistic people the opportunity to better understand the autism experience by seeing it through an autistic perspective.
