Ambulai Johnson was born in Liberia and on March 1, 2018, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Admission committee offered him an admission to do PhD research at their institution due to his submitted proposal and previous academic records. He needs 5 term payments of 13,536 to ensure his spot regarding the requirement for the Master of Public Health- Environmental Oppurtunities.
He was identified as an outstanding candidate who has the potential to make significant contribution to the field of Public Health, Energy and Environmental challenges. However, this great opportunity came with a restricted requirement to enable him to commence his Doctoral Research (PhD). The restricted requirement is to complete the Master of Public Health- Environmental Epidemiology (MPH) study for 11 months as a prerequisite to do a PhD research which is “Free of Charge with many Opportunities”. The MPH needs to be personally funded and then the PhD program will be taking care of by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Sadly, he was not able to attend June 2018 because of this restricted requirement which made him defer his admission and solicit funds to attend June 2019.
As such, we have considered it necessary to ask anyone for any financial assistance to support him in raising the required amount to pay his fees. Though the required amount is huge, we are determined to raise it through this means, as such, we would appreciate any amount you contribute to his cause.
This is where Ambulai sees himself in the future:
"I have learned more and more about the power we have to change our environment that has the ability to enhance public health greatly. With the enthusiasm and passion about the environment, health, energy and growing population of the world, I foresee myself in the upcoming years establishing a research institution that will aim to venture into comprehensive research, project enterprise development, education, community-based initiatives, and reintegration programs. I want to build the minds, attitude and perception of people towards the environment and towards improved health care through public health education. I deeply believe people have energy, enthusiasm, and innovation to restore nature through actions that we take to make our earth habitable, our water drinkable, and our air breathable."
His plans at John Hopkins:
"I have considered it necessary to pursue a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Global Environmental Sustainability and Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. I wish to take on this degree because of the significant knowledge gaps regarding preventive approaches in Liberia’s healthcare sector.
Afterwards, I would like to pursue a Doctoral Research Degree (Exposure Sciences and Environmental Epidemiology) at Johns Hopkins to improve my knowledge and potentials of contributing to global health issues, mainly in addressing limitations in primary prevention to provide strategy in combating environmental public health challenges. I intend to incorporate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) training and Data analytics for integrating public health spatial analysis while studying. With a good training in GIS techniques, I will be able to apply the skills to validate remotely sensed environmental data and this will significantly promote the prevention of endemic diseases in Liberia. With the growing population of 1.2 billion in Africa, it is my wish to also expand my acquired knowledge by providing technical environmental and healthcare services via GIS techniques to others African nations. Getting a space to study Public Health at Johns Hopkins will be a golden opportunity for me to acquire the knowledge and skill needed to contribute to addressing the global challenges in environment and healthcare. I want Liberia to be a healthy and environmentally sustainable country. I am quite hopeful that, with an education and training from your institution; I will have the capacity contribute to a sustainable health system in Liberia and the world at large. "
