Firstly, we (Brent Bidston and Todd Weselake) would like to thank you for taking the time to learn about a new local non profit Angel Flight East Kootenay. As you may be aware cancer, and other medical treatments requiring specialist are required to travel to Kelowna. These locations are very far from the Elk Valley, leaving families, and patients stranded in the worst of times. Angel Flight East Kootenay is separate to Angel Flights B.C (operated in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island) however we do share the same goals, motto's and constitution.
We will fly in light aircraft with volunteer pilots initially from Sparwood, Elk Valley Airport and Cranbrook, International Airport. Our passengers will mostly be children and adults with cancer, and children with non-communicable diseases and their care givers. As our funding grows, we hope to expand to transport various other non-emergency medical patents to specialist appointments. These people are often at risk of contracting further illnesses due to their compromised immune systems. Therefore, they should not travel in crowded environments such as commercial flights. We will not carry any emergency patients, nor will medical care be available on flights. At this time, all passengers must be able to get in and out of small aircraft without assistance and we cannot carry wheel chairs or walkers. Moving forward we hope to have flights operated from other airports in the Kootenays – more volunteer professional pilots will be recruited as demand for flights increases.
The Constitution of the Angel Flight East Kootenay Association is to:
1. Provide free air transport services to persons requiring medical services, treatment or care, and their caregivers, who are residents of the Kootenay Region of British Columbia, and
2. To promote, advocate for, and enable access to health care resources and services for residents of the Kootenay Region of British Columbia.
Angel Flight East Kootenay operates only with professional, highly trained and current pilots, following strict guidelines laid forward by Transport Canada. We are a registered non-profit and our charity status has been applied for, and is currently pending.
If you would like more information on our services, or would like to donate, please feel free to contact us at any time at [email redacted] We are currently in the process of launching our website as well: www.AngelFlightEK.ca . Every business that helps will be recognized on the Angel Flight East Kootenay website and our social media.
