Nathan and Family
Donation protected
Hello. My name is April Mae Macak and I am a mother of four beautiful children. January 7th, 2015 I took our youngest son, Nathan Anthony Johnson to his four month old check up. There the doctor notived his stomach was extended and his color was very pale. They took some blood samples. Later that night, our doctor called and stated Nathans hemoglobin was a 4 and he needed to be hospitalized immeditaly. Nathan also had an enlarged spleen, which was then near his pelvis. He was admitted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. While he was admitted, he underwent a bone marrow test, an MRI, a ABR hearing test, as well as several others. Since then Nathan has received 38 blood transfusions and will continue to need them for the rest of his life. Blood transfusions are the only reason our son is here today. I am creating a GoFundMe in hope to just have a little help with bills and other odds and ends to get by. All of Nathans doctor’s appointments are in Phoenix and it requires me to make frequent drives. Nathans condition has taught me just how precious life is and how fast it can be taken away. I am a hard worker and I am a current server at the Olive Garden. During the week, I work nights so I can stay with Nathan during the day and attend to his doctor’s appointments. Another way that I am also seeking help, is asking people to donate blood at any time. There is currently a blood shortage here in the United States, and it would mean a lot to me if people could donate.
With whatever funds I raise I plan to use for expenses to take care of my family and pay any remaining expenses I may have since I am only able to work so much currently. I am hoping that one day Nathan can go longer periods of time without having to receive blood and get better. With such mass amounts of iron in his blood from his transfusions, his liver is affected and he now has iron deposits in his liver. He is currently on a medication to help with iron over load.
I have lived a very difficult life and I just feel as if I need just a little help to get by while caring for Nathans medical needs.
Nathan was recently in the Casa Grande Dispatch where his story was published:
