Support April's Liver Transplant
Donation protected
April Miles is a loving mother, wife, sister and friend. She has spent her entire life bringing smiles to the faces of those around her. Those who’ve had the good fortune to meet April know what a kind and loyal friend she is. Now, it’s time to return the favor.
April was born with biliary atresia, a rare disorder which traps bile in the liver and damages its tissue. This disease, along with other medical problems, has left April battling health issues her entire life. (Though, you’d never know it from her positive attitude!) She no longer has a gallbladder, spleen or appendix. Recently, April’s health has taken a turn for the worse. Despite undergoing six surgeries in the last four months, her rapidly climbing MELD score has placed her on Ohio’s liver transplant list.
Doctors are hopeful that a match for April will become available soon, but unfortunately, that won’t be the end of April’s battle. Despite her husband Aaron’s medical insurance, the couple is expecting to pay more than $30,000 out of pocket towards the transplant surgery—and that doesn’t include the cost of her hospital stay, medications, or other health needs during this process.

Life doesn’t stop because of April’s medical condition. Aaron works full time in marketing and research in order to pay the bills. Their two young boys are in full-time child care: Oliver is an active 18-month-old and Samuel, 3, is a real-life Sheldon Cooper who was diagnosed with autism in 2014. Anyone with children—especially parents of children with special needs—knows how expensive full-time child care can be.
Despite her health, April tries to live as close to normal as possible. There’s no telling how long she’ll have to wait for her new liver, but she’s determined to make the most out of this waiting period. She’s taking college classes toward her bachelor’s degree, teaching herself to crochet, and spending as much time as possible with her boys!
So, what can we do to help?
Donate: Your gift—no matter how small—can help make a difference for April and her family. If you can spare a dollar, or even five, it would go a long way towards making April’s journey easier. Here are some examples of what your gift could provide.
$6 One day of parking at the hospital
$20 One night of take-out for Aaron, Samuel and Oliver. Sometimes, with all he has to do, it’s hard for Aaron to prepare a good meal for him and the boys.
$80 One day of childcare for Samuel or Oliver
$200 One week of medication for April
$1,600 One month of childcare for Samuel or Oliver
