Arpita's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
It was Arpita’s dream to come to the United States and build bridges.

She came to Buffalo, New York in 2014 to complete her Masters in Civil Engineering and to pursue a career here in her field.  In March of 2016, she started working full time with a prominent engineering firm in Concord, New Hampshire.

At 25 years old, it seemed nothing could stop this beautiful, energetic, kind, brilliant young woman. However, life is fragile and unpredictable. We are all just one instant away from that moment which can change our dreams forever.

On September 19th 2016, while walking down her driveway on her way to the gym after work, Arpita was struck by a large tree branch that fell from four stories above. Her neck was broken instantly and she was paralyzed.

Luckily, there was no brain damage beyond a small bleed, and the spinal injury was not the most severe type of injury imaginable. Still, there is a long journey of recovery ahead.

We expect to see progress in the next few months and very positive outcomes in the next year because Arpita is strong and courageous. What those exact outcomes shall be are yet unknown.

On October 12th,  Arpita moved into Spaulding spinal injury rehabilitation center near Boston.  It is one of the best centers in the world for this type of injury.  Here she begins the long road to recovery. We hope to soon see Arpita breathing on her own (without assistance of the ventilator) and talking again!

In addition to this hard work, there will be a heavy financial burden for Arpita. This type of severe spinal injury requires significant rehabilitation and the family has very limited resources.

It's difficult to estimate of the exact cost of her continued rehab but we want to raise another $100,000  to provide Arpita the best short term (3 to 6 months) recovery possible. This could include outstanding fees not covered by the insurance, outpatient care at Spaulding, ambulance costs, wheel chair costs, van rentals etc.

Your donation and your willingness to share this story with others, so that they may donate, will make her recovery possible. Help Arpita to build more bridges!

Thank you in advance for your donations.
