Art Outside Artists Damage Fund

Donation protected

The annual Art Outside festival at Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood, MO is a celebration of local artists from in and nearby the St. Louis, MO area.  Early Sunday morning, a micro-cell with high winds and violent weather blew through, doing so much damage to the artists's booths that the final day of the festival was cancelled.

There were 66 local artists showing their work this weekend, and each of them experienced some level of damage to their tent and their art. Some less severe than others, some an almost total loss.  Some tents were lifted up off of Southwest Ave and found hundreds of feet away on Sarah Street, behind the brewery.

Local news coverage of the damage: http://fox2now.com/2018/05/27/storm-damage-closes-schlaflys-art-outside-festival-in-maplewood/

We are raising funds to help offset at least a bit of the damage and loss the artists experienced, especially considering art fair season has officially begun.  The majority of these artists are start-ups and small businesses, and we know the amount of work and investment that has gone into their craft. The plan is to split the funds raised through this campaign evenly among all participating 2018 Art Outside Artists who wish to be included in the pool of recipients.

Additionally, we just confirmed that E-ZUP Instant Shelters  has generously offered a deeply discounted rate for participating artists who need to replace their tent.

Finally - donating here is not the only way to support these fantastic local artists. YOU CAN BUY THEIR ART! Many of them have online stores you can purchase from and many of them will be at other upcoming art fairs like the Webster Art Fair  next weekend. Additional Campaign Details

Who is managing this campaign?

Elle and Troika Brodsky live just a few houses down the street from Schlafly Bottleworks and were a couple of the neighbors helping clean up after the storm on Sunday morning. In addition to having a few friends with booths at this year's Art Outside, Troika is a long-time Maplewood resident who also worked for Schlafly Beer for 13 years and helped run Art Outside for many of those years. Elle currently runs the non-profit Yoga Buzz and Troika is the Executive Director of the St. Louis Brewers Guild and co-owner of Ices Plain & Fancy .

How will the funds be used and distributed?

Once the campaign has run its course (we dont have a set time limit - the plan is to simply make a call when momentum stalls out), the final total of donations recieved will be split evenly among all of the 2018 Art Outside artists who have not opted out of receiving funds. We have emailed a Google Form to all participating artists that gives them the option to opt out of receiving a share of funds if they would prefer to have their share benefit their fellow artists. The final even shares from this campaign will be paid out by check and mailed directly to these artists. All postage and logistics will be handled by Elle and Troika Brodsky.
