Hello North Nashville family, friends, and community,
Most of you know about Art History Class Lifestyle Lounge and Gallery. This piece of North Nashville Culture sits on Jefferson street across the way from Knockout Wings has been providing this community with a space that serves as a "living museum" and gallery, a community gathering space, and a space that attracts visitors and residents to fellowship and learn from North Nashville’s rich HBCU history for the past decade. Art History Class LLG is said to be a “place for the people". Exhibiting the area’s local art, while also providing students a platform to showcase their art, and serving as a community epicenter for the disenfranchised area. Art History Class LLG has grown to be a true gem in our community.
Due to rising capacity, Art History Class is transitioning from its space on Jefferson Street and expanding its programming to reach more of its North Nashville neighborhood. After crafting the Gallery’s traditional African American artistic aesthetic, and hosting over thousands of guests from all over the world, Art history Class LLG is looking to open its possibilities to further enrich the community by providing artist-in-residence opportunities, developing youth specified programming, and incorporating a new space that will continue as the living museum and gallery for North Nashville.
Even if you have been able to support Art History Class LLG by purchasing a painting or not, you have almost certainly benefited from what this organization does in this community rather it be the Wine and Whiskey Social that brings together communities from different walks of life, or to the 2nd Soul Cinema which educates and entertains guests during an outdoor cinema experience. Or maybe you've undoubtedly wandered by this magical place and been in awe of the books, the art, historic memorabilia, and other treasures within this gallery.
Art History Class LLG is one the top contributors to the North Nashville community. This organization is dedicated to the perseveration of the rich heritage of the communities surrounding these HBCU’s past as well as adapting to the social and economic changes of the future. Art History Class is in a class of its own in terms of mission and drive by creating programming primarily to reflect the unique experiences of the North Nashville community. By this we have been said to function as a “lighthouse of culture” to the great city Nashville.
Feel like showing Art History Class how much you care? Let's keep this simple by using this Gofundme page. You can also come by the gallery and buy paintings by Founder & Creative Director, Thaxton Waters II, or other random treasures you may find.
As you can imagine, the transition costs are well into the 5-6 figure thousands, and by now, I'm sure you can see where this is going. Let's raise it. We are looking to our community to support, share and spread the word, to raise the initial $15,000 dollars for this transition. Here is a little breakdown...
Financial History and Current Needs:
The re-establishment of The Art history Class Lifestyle Lounge and Gallery is a cultural investment preserving the needs of our communities surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities. From 2014- 2016 we've invested over $20,000 in the development of our current space. We have served the community with more than 5 monthly programs, worked with over 10 community partners, and have hosted over 25 one-time events each year. Some events that we've hosted include the Conscious Conversations, Fathom's Spoken Word Cypher, various art, workshops, lectures, live musical performances, history and etiquette classes, and have showcased several local artists such as Shawn Whitsell, Rashad the Poet, Xavier Payne, and a host of others.
We wish to continue this work and are asking that our stakeholders reinvest alongside with us in Art History Class LLG to help us meet our goals for continuing and expanding the current programming. This would act as a catalyst to begin the work in the new space.
Thank you so much for your consideration and hopefully, your contribution to Art History Class Lifestyle Lounge and Gallery. Next, please write a similar post, or share this one. As long as our community is behind us, it will likely be taken care of quickly. When it comes down to it, this is not just for Art History Class LLG, but for all of us. Help us make sure that we can continue doing this life changing work.
