On September 2nd, 2016 our good friend, Ashley Minor, who is a single mother of two, was working her twelve hour shift at the local hospital.  At the end of her shift her entire world came crashing down when she received a phone call that her 8 year old son Teagan, had been hit by a car, and had multiple injuries.

Stacey, her best friend, rushed to meet Ashley at the local airport  where they were transporting her son Teagan by ambulance so he could be flown out to a level II Trauma unit in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Teagan suffered several broken bones, stitches, bruising, and a concussion, but thankfully, by some miracle, he was still alive.  After a short stay in pediatric ICU, and once they were finally able to manage his pain, he was released to go home. Teagan had compound fractures in  his left arm, and left leg, which were both put into casts. The cast on his left leg went all the way up to his hip, and he was confined to a wheelchair and unable to bear any weight on his left leg. Once home, Ashley provided all of Teagan's care with the help of her 13 year old daughter Paige.

Ashely did not allow this accident with her son to set her back. Although she had missed time from work and now had many unplanned medical expenses, along with trips back and forth to doctors and surgeons, she made things work and somehow managed to go back to work when Teagan was finally able to return to school.

But on Thrusday, October 27th, 2016, yet another tragedy occurred for Ashley and her children. While returning home from an orthopedic appointment in Fort Wayne, at which Teagan was finally found to have improved enough to move out of the wheelchair to crutches and start trying to bear weight on his leg a bit, they were involved in a car accident.  Ashley and the children were T-boned while crossing a busy highway intersection.  The initial impact was on Teagan's side of the car. He had to be extracted from the vehicle by the jaws of life. Not only were Teagan and Ashley injured, but so was her 13 year old daughter Paige , who was also in the vehicle.  All 3 were Life lined to Fort Wayne with multiple injuries.

Since then, thankfully, they have all made it home safely, but not without residual effects sustained in the crash. Ashley and Paige both suffer from headaches, and dizziness due to both suffering concussions, as well as general soreness from cuts, scrapes and bruising. After another stay in the ICU unit, Teagon is also home, but back to non weight bearing on his previously injured leg, and once again in a wheelchair. He is also suffering from a second concussion, and P.T.S.D. due to all the trauma he has recently endured.

At this time household and medical expenses, as well as the many unanticipated trips to and from doctors and surgeons are becoming very burdensome to this family. The family's car was also totaled in the accident, and transportation in general has been difficult as well.  Ashley is unable to work at this time. Not only is she recovering from her own injuries, she also needs to be home to care for her children and the injuries they sustained.

I've seen my  friend struggle as a single parent, and she is a very independent woman. I've seen Ashley do whatever she can to help others when she had nothing herself extra to give.  Ashey has always provided for her children, putting them first, while working full time as well as attending classes to better herself and the life of her children.  She hides her anxieties about finances, and their injuries, metally as well as physically, to protect them from further stress and worry. She is a fighter, who always works hard, and does her very best to stay optimistic regardless of what life as thrown at her. She has a big heart and a beautiful soul.

If anyone could find it in their hearts to help this family during this difficult time, any amount of donation you're able to give would be greatly appreciated. I know it will not be easy for Ashley to accept this help, but if anyone deserves a helping hand, it's Ashley. For years she has given selflessly to others while working in the healthcare profession, and is always the first to offer a helping hand or a kind word to anyone in need, never asking for anything in return. Please, if you're able, let's help Ashley and her family get through this rough patch and back on their feet. Thank you for taking the time to read her story.  It is very appreciated.

Sincerely,
Stacey Boomhower, Julie Shafer, & Friends
