Assassins in support of Mental Health NS

In 2016 Whale Song Theatre was founded in Halifax, NS with mandate of supporting local charities with our theatrical productions. 

In June 2019 we will be staging the cult classic Assassins by Stephen Sondheim in support of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. 

Assassins explores the lives of nine people who attempted to, or succeeded in, killing the President of the United States - or other famous citizens of their era. It's frank, comedic, dark, and utterly compelling. The cry of the disenfranchised rings true in our current political and social climate, with characters ripped from history speaking truth to the despair so often felt in 2019. 

We felt that this show partners perfectly with the work of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.  An advocacy, education and funding group, they provide supports and resources to the citizens of Nova Scotia suffering with a wide variety of mental health issues. We want to bring attention to the work they do, and the desperate need for advocacy and education surrounding mental health care. 

We want to ensure that we can give as much money to MHFNSA as possible ($1 from every ticket sold is guaranteed to the charity), by raising the funds to help us cover the costs of mounting the production. The more we are able to raise in advance, the more resources we can donate to this wonderful organization. 

Making theatre isn't cheap, but we do it because we love story telling and we love giving back to our community. Our costs will be over $10,000 to put together this show, but your support will help us cover the cost of the following:

- Performance Rights and Licensing 
- Venue Rental
- Props, sets and costumes
